Born and raised for the purpose of being a Police dog -- Once he came of age, Bear was put through, and excelled in his training.
After his training was complete, Bear was soon given to his new Handler, the Assistant Sheriff: Ben. Bear loved his new owner, and was known throughout the Police Station to be quite the K-9, obeying commands on the spot, frequently out-doing the other K-9's at their own jobs and being well behaved towards anyone who approached when he was off-duty.
Though, things turned for the worse when he and Ben had entered a Criminals house; wanted for the Murder of numerous women and children. Ben was shot upon entering the house and bled out before help could arrive whilst all Bear could do was obey Ben's final command. "Bite." , and hold the Criminal in place until Back-up arrived.
When help had finally arrived, Bear was latched on to the Criminal, his gun, and many other items in the room splayed across the floor. The K-9 had to be literately pried off before being leashed up to one of the Cars while the suspect was hand-cuffed, read his rights, and as the body of the ex-Assistant Sheriff was taken care of. The Criminal was arrested, though badly wounded. Where Bear had bitten, he had nearly tore a chunk of flesh off and the Criminal had to be sent to the hospital before anything further could be done.
After the realization that Ben was dead settled in, Bear quickly grew quite depressed, and eventually began to snap and bite at anyone who came near whilst refusing to obey any commands.
Forced to quit his job, and on the brink of being euthanized, Bear was taken in by his former Owners Nephew, who had been quite close to Ben before his death; and couldn't just let his Uncle's dog be put down after he'd heard how the dog had once, and many other times saved Ben, and many other peoples lives.
And so afterwards, Bear resided in his former owners Nephew's backyard chained to a dog-house, on the brink of being put down for his aggressive way.
Though on the day of his near demise after biting someone who was stupid enough to stick their hand through the fence, something happened. The clasp on his collar broke off after a year or so of his continuous yanking on it.
He was free.
